Summaries

Minutist drafts a summary of each meeting from the transcript and your notes, using a local model. It runs on your machine; nothing is sent to a server.

After a meeting finalises, a summary is generated in the background; open the Summary column to read it when it is ready. You can also run it yourself: the Summarise button (which becomes Re-summarise once a summary exists) in the Summary pane.

The first time you summarise, the model is downloaded: a multi-gigabyte, one-time download (the app shows the exact size). The pane shows that phase separately from the writing so a long first run does not look stuck.

By default the summary is structured Markdown with these sections, any empty one omitted:

  • Summary: a short overview of the meeting.
  • Key decisions: what was decided.
  • Action items: follow-ups, naming the owner when one was stated.

The summary is rendered for reading. Press Edit to correct the raw Markdown by hand and Save to keep your version.

Open the Summary prompt section in the Summary pane to change how it summarises. Pick a preset:

  • Structured (Summary / Decisions / Actions): the default above.
  • Structured, skip chit-chat: the same, with greetings and small talk left out.
  • Action items + owners: focused on decisions and follow-ups.
  • Detailed, sectioned: a fuller record, organised by topic.

The same disclosure has a Custom prompt box. Type an instruction there and it overrides the selected preset; leave it empty and the preset is used. Re-summarise to apply a change.
