Notes

Notes are the primary column in Minutist. You type your own account of the meeting here while it happens (or afterwards), and each paragraph stays anchored to the moment it was written, so a note and the words that prompted it line up.

The editor is a rich-text surface (Tiptap). You get headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, code blocks, tables, and links. Markdown shortcuts work as you type: # for a heading, - for a bullet, **bold**, `code`, > for a quote. Smart typography turns straight quotes and dashes into their typeset forms.

Copying out preserves formatting; paste into a document editor and the headings and lists survive.

While you are recording, the first time you type into a paragraph it is stamped with the recording time. A gutter down the left edge shows that time: elapsed time from the start of the recording, or the time of day if the meeting has a start time. A paragraph is stamped once, on first keystroke, and never re-stamped, so the timestamp marks when you started that note, not when you last edited it.

Notes taken after the meeting are not stamped; the gutter is for the live record.

Notes and the transcript are linked both ways:

  • Hover a note paragraph and the transcript segments it spans are highlighted in the transcript pane.
  • Click a transcript line and the notes scroll to the paragraph anchored nearest that moment.
  • Drag a transcript timestamp into your notes and it drops in as a quoted transcript chip, carrying the speaker, the text, and the time.

The transcript pane is hidden by default (a scrolling transcript competes with writing). Show it with the Transcript button in the pane toggle at the top of the window.

Drag or paste a file straight into the notes and it becomes an attachment: an image renders as a thumbnail inline, anything else as a file card you can click to open in your default application. The file’s text feeds the summary and is searchable in chat. See Attachments.

Notes autosave continuously; there is no save button. Everything on this page works the same on a saved meeting as on a live one; open a past meeting and the timestamps, cross-references, and chips are all still there.
