Pre-launch. The free desktop build works today — it isn't code-signed yet, so your OS warns on first run. Paid sync, billing, and the mobile app aren't open yet. Get in touch.

Install on Linux

Two distribution formats are published: an AppImage (runs on most x86-64 distributions without installation) and a .deb package (Debian, Ubuntu, and derivatives). Both bundle all required libraries, including the sherpa-onnx audio libraries, so no separate system install is needed.

Release binaries are on the project’s GitHub releases page, each with a SHA-256 checksum to verify the download. You can also build from source.

Grab the AppImage or .deb for your distribution from the GitHub releases page. Each release lists its version in the filename (minutist-<version>-x86_64.AppImage or minutist_<version>_amd64.deb) and publishes a SHA-256 checksum next to the download.

Before running the file, confirm it matches the checksum published with the release:

Terminal window
sha256sum minutist-<version>-x86_64.AppImage
# compare with the SHA-256 listed on the GitHub release

Substitute the .deb filename if you downloaded that instead.

  1. Make the file executable:

    Terminal window
    chmod +x minutist-<version>-x86_64.AppImage
  2. Run it directly, no installation required:

    Terminal window
    ./minutist-<version>-x86_64.AppImage

If you prefer a desktop launcher, most file managers let you right-click → Properties → mark as executable, then double-click to run.

On first launch Minutist will prompt you to download a transcription model. This is the only network request the free build makes; nothing else leaves your machine. See Getting started for the full first-run walkthrough.

  • x86-64 CPU (ARM builds are not yet available)
  • A working audio input device for recording
  • Enough RAM for the transcription model you choose; the app shows model sizes when you pick one

Minutist runs under both X11 and Wayland (via XWayland). If you encounter a blank window under a native Wayland compositor, set:

Terminal window
WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 ./minutist-<version>-x86_64.AppImage

System-audio loopback (recording what plays through your speakers) is not supported on Linux; the app records from your microphone only.

Delete the .AppImage file. Application data lives under ~/.local/share/ai.minutist/ (or $XDG_DATA_HOME/ai.minutist/ if you have set that variable). Remove that directory to clear all stored models, meetings, and settings.
